Our Family

Meghan’s Family:
“My mom is a retired nurse, and my dad is still operating his veterinarian business after more than 40 years. My sister is a teacher and her family lives in Wiggins, MS. My brother in law is a music minister at a local Baptist church, and they all are very involved in music and youth ministries. My nephew is about to be a Senior in high school and he enjoys playing in the marching band. My niece is about to enter high school and she plays in a marching band as well. They are a very musical family! We enjoy getting to together for holidays and at our family cabin in Mississippi near our aunt and uncle.” – Meghan

Jonathan’s Family:
“My parents are the most wonderful people I know. The raised my brother and I in a very stable, loving, and supportive household. My mother was a teacher before becoming a stay at home mom. My dad was an Analytical Chemist and manager before retiring several years ago. I have a brother that is 2 years older. He has worked at Walmart for many years now. We enjoy going to movies together. My extended family is all from California, and I have very fond memories of staying at my grandparents house in Los Angeles and going to the beach, mountains, museums, and national parks all over the state.” – Jonathan

Our Traditions

Holidays are a big deal in our family. We love Christmas and decorate our house with multiple Christmas trees all covered in ornaments we collect on our travels or that have some meaning for us. Birthday celebrations typically last all month and involve lots of eating out and cake with various family members. Meghan’s birthday is in King Cake season, so she typically has a King Cake for her birthday cake. One thing that makes our family somewhat unique is that both sides of parents and siblings all get together for Thanksgiving and Easter at one of our houses. It is so nice that our families consider each other extended family and enjoy getting together.

Travel

We LOVE to travel and try to do it a couple times a year. Paris and France is our favorite place in the world and we love the history, culture, food, and architecture so much. When Jonathan’s grandparents were alive, we visited California every year. Since then, we’ve tried to experience more areas of the U.S. such as Chicago, St. Louis, Boston, D.C., Hawaii, and Colorado. We love museums, local foods, views of the ocean, mountains, and national parks. We believe travel is one of the key ways to understand the world and our small place in it. We plan to use travel to introduce our child to the world, teach them about other cultures and history, and experience beauty and awe.
