I grew up in a family of four in a small neighborhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. My mother started her career in the arts and television but later in life pursued nursing and is now retired. My father is a veterinarian and has owned and operated his own practice for over 40 yrs. I am a daddy’s girl at heart and decided pretty much from the time I could walk and talk that I too had a love for animals. I pursued a career in animal medicine all throughout high school and college. After I graduated from college with my bachelor’s degree in Biology, I explored many different avenues with my degree even trying out nursing like my mother, but found I still longed for a career in animal medicine. I would eventually attend a two year program at my local community college to become a Veterinary Technologist. At this time, I am currently not working as a Vet Tech, but I keep my license active so that I can return to work if I choose to do so in the future.
I have always been a woman of faith. I weekly attend my local branch of Bible Study Fellowship and find that it helps me continue to remain connected to God, a relationship that has always been apart of my life. This personal relationship is a journey that keeps me grounded and helps me to find hope. I find that having an active prayer life makes the trials of life easier to face and manage. I know that as I walk through life I am never alone. God is always beside me walking beside me through life.
I am a true bibliophile. I love to read and lose myself in a story or subject. When I find a topic that interests me, I read a bunch of books on the subject to absorb all there is to know about it. My love for reading overflows into my social life as well. I am a member of a local book club and through this group, I have made friends and been introduced to many different genres of books. I am one of those women you see online who has her own personal library at home that is full of books, trinkets, and book related tchotchkes. I can be found on many an afternoon laying in my library papasan with my sweet dog and fluffy cat next to me lost in a book.
Fun fact: I love Christmas time. I love the joy of the season, Christmas music, decorations, etc. Our Christmas trees hold so many ornaments that are more like memories. I also have a large advent calendar collection with all different kinds that count down the days to Christmas with moving objects and scenes that come together. During Christmas, the first 20-30 mins of my day begins with updating all the Christmas countdowns. Among many of our Christmas traditions, one of our favorite traditions is participating in Jonathan’s childhood church’s annual downtown Christmas pilgrimage. The event consists of walking from church to church of various denominations and enjoying a mini concert by each choir. The night ends with all the congregations gathering at the final stop to join together as one to sing the Hallelujah Chorus from The Messiah. Christmas is definitely my favorite Holiday and I look forward to it all year.
About Meghan, from Jonathan:
“Meghan is an incredibly loving and committed person. She loves her family and friends fiercely. She is so much fun to be around and is a social butterfly. There is no one that can make me laugh more than her, and I love making her laugh in return. I love making her feel loved, supported, and valued. A fun thing I tease her about is that we can’t walk outside together for exercise because she has to stop and pet every cute doggy we come across and chat with the owner, interrupting our exercise! I love this about her.” – Jonathan
